Biographical / Historical

Charles Mcdonald Puckette II was born on July 28, 1887 in Sewanee. He was a journalist who worked for the New York Evening Post, The New York Times and as publisher of the Chattanooga Times. He was a Sewanee graduate, class of 1907, and received a master's in 1908. He was also a member of the Episcopal Church National Council and was a Chattanooga civic leader. His parents were Charles Mcdonald Puckette I and Charlotte Barnwell Elliott. He married Elizabeth Argyle Gettys on November 8, 1913. They were the parents of two sons, Charles III and Stephen, and a daughter named Isabelle. He died on January 15, 1957 in Lookout Mountain at the age of 69. He was buried in the University of the South Cemetery.
